Castel-Merle is an archaeological area beside the Vézère River and in a side valley consisting of these sites: Abri Blanchard 1, Abri Blanchard 2, Abri Castanet, Abri Labattut, Abri des Merveilles, Abri Reverdit, Abri de la Souquette, Abri du Roc de l'Acier. The site of Castel-Merle is also known as Vallon des Roches, also the name of the small creek that runs through it and joins the Vezere.
